Clay Around the County

This weekend marks the beginning of "All Fired Up!," a county-wide celebration of ceramics. With 60 exhibitions showcasing the work of over 600 artists, the event is intended to explore the many ways that clay can be transformed and molded. Sponsored by the Westchester Arts Council, the event also includes panel discussions, workshops, and classes. "Playing with Fire," at the Paramount Center for the Arts, displays clay works made for the wall, from tiles, to tableaus, to sculptural installations. Maxwell Fine Arts, also in Peekskill, presents "Primordial Considerations," an exhibit of work ranging from abstract to totemic by ceramic artists who are all using clay as their primary medium. At the Katonah Museum of Art, "Conversations in Clay" presents tableaus by ten artists who probe a wide range of contemporary issues through installation art. "Soundscapes," at the Hammond Museum, presents a display of Suikinkutsu, an ancient Japanese garden technique that uses a large ceramic pot to create beautiful sounds. Other exhibitions will be at sites throughout the county. Check the website for more details. October 3 through November 30. All Fired Up!
