The county-owned
Hilltop Hanover Farm in Yorktown Heights has won the
American Planning Associations's 2010 National Planning Excellence Award for Innovation in Best Practices for Sustainability. The APA cites the 180 acre farm's range of public programs, its demonstration projects—including green roofs (right), rain barrels, and composting toilets—, and the fact that 70% of the farm's produce (7,000 pounds) is distributed to local food pantries. On their
blog, one of the farmers says, "It's lovely to get some recognition, especially from a leading national organization!"
I've been to some classes at the farm and they've been great.
